Windows 10 golf games can be a great way to pass the time with and Mini Golf Buddies hopes to catch your eye with its 3D graphics and challenging holes.
Available for Windows 10 PC and Mobile, Mini Golf Buddies offers 60 putt-putt style golf holes in the single player mode and supports up to four players in a multi-player mode.
Graphics have an old-school style and gameplay does require a delicate touch with the putter. Each level offers a challenging set of difficulties to maneuver around. To add to the challenge, each hole is timed, making success even more rewarding.
The free game is a nice addition to the sports game genre in the Windows Store and not a bad time killer.
The primary menu for Mini Golf Buddies offers you the options for the games settings, access to the game's store, access to the game's buddy list and access to a daily game of chance to win bonus coins. The game store has opportunities to upgrade the game to the premium version (currently free) and to unlock a Last Shot Indicator ($1.99).
The buddy list is a large collection of golfers that you can unlock with the coins you earn during gameplay or pick up through in-app purchases ($1.49 - $29.99). The golfers range from a Canadian Mounty to various Zombie creatures.
Gameplay includes two modes. There is a single player Campaign Mode and a multi-player Hotseat Mode. The multiplayer mode supports up to four players in pass-n-play fashion and both modes taps into a collection of 60 golf holes.
Mini Golf Buddies supports both touch and keyboard controls. Touch controls have directional arrows in the lower left corner of the screen and a putt meter in the lower right. Keyboard support includes a combination of mouse/touchpad and keyboard controls.
Prior to each hole, players are presented a brief overview of the hole. Once you begin to tackle a golf hole, you can zoom in/out but cannot rotate the view.
Each hole is timed based on the difficulty with the most challenging holes being afforded more time. Line up your shot with the directional controls and tap the putt meter to initiate your stroke. When you see the power level of your liking, tap the meter button a second time to hit the ball.
Golf holes include difficulties such as ramps, bumps in the green, holes in the green, uphill and downhill slopes, windmills and more. Some of the holes can be a royal pain in the backside, requiring patience as well as a delicate touch. The difficulty is that you cannot take too much time lining your shots with the game timer quickly counting down.
Mini Golf Buddies has a lot going for it with attractive 8-bit style graphics and challenging holes. I would have liked to have seen the option to rotate the course to allow you to view things from multiple angles. That or the ability to pull up an overhead view of the hole. The initial overview is nice but goes by quick.
All in all, Mini Golf Buddies is a fun, physics-based sports game for Windows 10 to kill time with. The selection of golfers provides you with the ability to customize play a little and controls are easy to use. Mini Golf Buddies is a free game, available for Windows 10 PC and Mobile.
