Now that it's tackled 3D content creation in the Windows 10 Creators Update, Microsoft is looking to bring 3D objects to life. Announced on stage at its education event today, Microsoft showed off View Mixed 3D, a feature that will let any Windows 10 PC view virtual objects in the real world using only its camera.
In the demo given on stage, View Mixed Reality was able to place a life-sized version of the Curiosity Rover on stage, allowing us to compare a lifelike model to other objects and people nearby. The possibilities for this are pretty expansive, from giving students a way to visualize celestial objects to just trying out new furniture in your apartment.
What's more, View Mixed Reality will work with any Windows 10 PC, so long as it's equipped with an RBG camera. In other words, any webcam will work. That's a boon for anyone who wants to experiment with mixed reality, but particularly schools where affordable, low-specced PCs are the norm. And with a slew of $189 Windows 10 Education PCs on the horizon from various Microsoft partners, that's good news.
View Mixed Reality will be available in Windows 10 this fall.
