Aliens vs. Predator, Kingdoms of Amalur, Sonic Unleashed join Xbox backward compatibility

Ever since Xbox One backward compatibility was announced, gamers have been asking for a few high-profile games. While the majority of requests revolve around the Call of Duty franchise, the Aliens and Sonic franchises have been other hot series. Today, Microsoft announced that Aliens vs. Predator, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, and Sonic Unleashed are now backward compatible.

Backward compatibility opens Xbox One to a huge variety of games, spanning three generations of Microsoft's consoles. Despite hardware differences, it remains an outstanding feature, allowing a select library of older games to be played on Xbox One. While the majority of them are Xbox 360 titles, there are also some original Xbox games in there. To date, gamers have enjoyed well over a billion hours of backward compatible games, and the catalog now includes over five hundred Xbox 360 games alone.

Aliens vs. Predator

Aliens vs. Predator is a game from acclaimed British developer Rebellion, the team behind the 1999 original. Bringing the legendary war between two popular characters to first-person shooter fans, Aliens vs. Predator delivers three single-player campaigns and provides untold hours of unique three-way multiplayer gaming. The title takes you to the deadly jungles and swamps surrounding the damned colony of Freya's Prospect.

Aliens vs. Predator costs $19.99 on the Xbox 360 Marketplace.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has a lot of creative talent behind it. New York Times bestselling author R.A. Salvatore, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Lead Designer Ken Rolston created the role-playing game set in a world worth saving. You can build the character you've always wanted and continuously evolve it to your playstyle with the revolutionary "Destiny" system. Personalization is at the heard of the experience.

Sonic Unleashed

Sonic Unleashed is arguably one of the most unique Sonic games out there. The titular character is on an adventure unlike any other this time around. The game merges classic gameplay with the latest movement mechanics. Players race through intriguing locations across the globe as Sonic to save a chaotic planet. On a quest for domination once more, Dr. Eggman unleashes a terrifying beast from the center of the Earth. The event causes a devastating tremor that splinters the world into seven continents and triggers a hair-raising transformation in Sonic. He basically becomes a "werehog," which is essentially a werewolf and hedgehog hybrid.

Sonic Unleashed costs $12.88 on Amazon.

Be sure to check out Sonic Unleashed in particular if you're a fan of the Sonic games. Many Sonic titles aren't just cult classics, they're also a lot of fun to play due to their fast-paced gameplay.
