Datamined Apex Legends files hint at new modes and spectators

This month, Respawn Entertainment — now owned by EA — launched a battle royale experience called Apex Legends. There were rumors that it would be a free-to-play version of Titanfall, but it's more along the lines of Overwatch than anything else. The game seems to take place in the Titanfall universe, but it doesn't feature mechs or any other towering contraptions you can control. It's a standard run-and-gun shooter, where each character has various special abilities.

According to a report by VG247, there are more modes coming to Apex Legends very soon. The first datamined finding states that "Survival" mode will feature spectators and other characters which will cheer players on. It sounds a lot like The Hunger Games to be honest.

A replay system may also be in the works. Right now, you can't view how your were killed, or how you killed someone. Kill replay systems are common in many shooters like the Call of Duty series, so hopefully it'll be added to Apex Legends very soon. Respawn was founded by developers from Infinity Ward.

"Recruit" mode may be like Halo's "Zombie" mode. If you're killed, you become a part of the other team and have to hunt the remaining players who were once your comrades.

Right now you have to partner with a squad to play the game. However, datamined information suggests that the ability to play alone or with just one more player may be coming soon. However, keep in mind that the files may just be remnants of scrapped ideas. New playable heroes were also listed.

As with any such leak, take it with a grain of salt until we receive official confirmation. We should know more about what's new in the coming weeks because a major patch is expected to drop in March.
