ASUS' StudioBook S for creators jams a 17-inch display in a 15-inch chassis

Alongside its new ZenBook S13, ASUS is using CES 2019 as the launchpad for its latest mobile workstation, the StudioBook S (W700). And while there's plenty to like about the StudioBook S for creators, the one big highlight here is just how large of a display ASUS managed to stash into a relatively compact chassis.

The 16:10 display on the StudioBook S (W700) measures at 17 inches, but it comes packed inside a chassis the size of a typical 15-inch laptop. That's largely thanks to ASUS' NanoEdge design, which includes thin bezels measuring 5.3mm. And because this mobile workstation is targeted at creators, the screen is rated at 97 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color space and is Pantone validated.

On the inside, the StudioBook S comes with Intel Core i7-8750H or Xeon E-2176M processors. Pushing its graphics capabilities is the NVIDIA Quadro P3200, which should prove powerful enough for most creative tasks. That's backed up by up to 64GB of RAM and up to 4TB of SSD storage.

The trackpad includes a hidden number pad, much like other recent entries in the ZenBook series, and there's also a fingerprint reader for Windows Hello authentication. Ports include one USB-C port with Thunderbolt and DisplayPort 1.4, three USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A ports, one HDMI 2.0, and an SD card reader.

The ASUS StudioBook S (W700) is expected to launch "in the coming months" with pricing to be revealed later.
