During its E3 2018 briefing, Bethesda finally announced a new game that has been rumored for several years. Starfield is a science-fiction adventure which takes you across the universe.

There's very little to go on right now, but Bethesda has already built rich and beloved worlds with The Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises. If it can do the same with Starfield, it may have a hit on its hands for a whole new audience. However, only time will tell. It's the publisher's first new franchise in 25 years.

On stage at E3, Bethesda's Todd Howard said that Starfield was a next-generation, single-player game. Starfield is a game that the company has spent years thinking about and working on, something it feels uniquely positioned to pull off.

In a recent interview between Eurogamer and Howard, the developer revealed more details about the project.

What systems we put it out on — what's the hardware requirements — is still to be determined. We're pushing it. We're thinking very, very far in future so we're building something that will handle next-generation hardware. That's what we're building on right now, that's where our mind is, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't exist on the current systems as well.

Unfortunately, it looks like Starfield won't be releasing anytime soon because it's targeting the Xbox One X's successor. Hopefully Bethesda will release is sooner but given the complexity of the studio's experiences, that doesn't appear to be the case. We'll keep you posted as soon as we know more down the line.
