Dell Inspiron 7000 2-in-1 Black Edition packs a pen garage in the hinge

Dell hasn't been afraid to innovate on existing designs with its CES 2019 lineup, and that's obvious with its latest round of refreshes to its Inspiron 7000 2-in-1 range.

Both the 13-inch and 15-inch models are being revamped this year, packing an aluminum design, narrow borders, and a sleek diamond-cut finish around the touchpad.

The most unique addition, however, is included in the hinge on the Inspiron 7000 2-in-1 Black Edition, which now sports a garage for the active pen. No matter how you have the screen positioned, the hinge always ensures that the pen is always facing you. When you're done using it, the pen can be magnetically reattached to the garage, sitting safely tucked away when you close the lid.

The new Inspiron 7000 2-in-1s are the first in the series to include Dell's "Adaptive Thermal Technology" as well. The feature can detect whether the laptop is sitting still on a desk, moving around, or sitting in your lap, and automatically adjust its performance profile in response. Theoretically, this should keep you from getting uncomfortable from the Inspiron's heat output when it's sitting in your lap.

Apart from the redesigns, Dell is relatively mum on hardware specs. However, the company has confirmed that the Inspiron 7000 2-in-1s will come with Intel's 8th Gen Core processors. The keyboard will also come with a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button for Windows Hello authentication.

Pricing isn't available just yet, but the Dell Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 and 15 7000 2-in-1 are set to launch in the June-July timeframe later this year.
