Get free gear from Razer when you play these Windows PC games

Razer's zVault was announced a few weeks ago as a virtual currency for both games and products. You can purchase zGold using real money, and then spend it on micro-payments in games such as Smite and Paladins to earn zSilver. The second currency is earned over time simply by using Razer software, such as Razer Cortex, spending zGold with Razer's various partners, or by participating in Razer's competitive Arena system.

Today, Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan announced that the games Overwatch, League of Legends, Dota 2 and CounterStrike: Global Offensive will all support zSilver through the Razer Cortex software suite, allowing players to earn credit simply by playing.

By earning zSilver in these games, players can cash in on discounts for various Razer products, including discounts on devices, mice and keyboards, and headsets — all without paying a penny of real money.

You could earn your way to a free Razer Mamba Chroma mouse in a matter of months.

You will earn three zSilver per minute, up to 900 each day, using the free Razer Cortex software on your PC. For the first two weeks of the program, zSilver accrual will be doubled at six points per minute. Razer also revealed plans to include commodities such as movie tickets and coffee in the future.

Min-Liang Tan hailed the feature in a press release, noting that gamers will receive rewards simply for playing games they're already active in:

The concept of everyday gamers getting paid to play has never been done by a hardware brand in the gaming industry. Gamers may reap the benefits of a rewards system simply by doing things they're already doing. The world of gaming is the ultimate even playing field, representing every kind of person in the world. We are excited about helping good people to get Razer products wherever they are, whatever their situations, and regardless of what game they're playing, as long as they are gamers.

So what's the catch? Honestly, it doesn't seem like there is one. It might take a while to rack up those points, but some of us are probably going to be playing anyway. So if you're an Overwatch PC junkie, you could earn your way to a free Razer Mamba Chroma mouse in a matter of months.

Additionally, Tan announced the first zSilver exclusive item: a limited edition Chroma color supported cup holder that will be available only via zSilver. Razer's novel cup holder will cost 100,000 zSilver. It would take 111 days playing five hours a day to earn, but, for some of us, that's probably not a big deal.

It will be interesting to see how zVault evolves over time. Will we eventually be able to bank our zSilver on a pizza delivery? Time will tell.
