Finebits launches Sonca, a universal media player for Windows 10 and Xbox

Finebits has been one of the more prominent developers on the Microsoft Store for some time, with popular apps ranging from 8 Zip to Torrex. Now, the developer is taking a step into the media player arena with Sonca, an app that brings all of your media together in a rather slick interface that works across Windows 10, Xbox One, HoloLens, and even Surface Hub.

Sonca works as you'd expect with your local media, pulling in all of the files on your PC and automatically organizing tracks and information. It steps things up a notch by allowing you to also connect to cloud services like Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive, where you may also have a bundle of media stored. From the description:

Sonca is a single player for all your music, movies, clips and audio books. Just add all the media files from Windows 10 devices and clouds to Sonca and your collection will always be available offline. Watch your favourite movies or listen to music, and the app itself will add and organize tracks information and will remember the moment you stopped.

The app also supports both Continuum and Windows Timeline. There's a compact mode built in, so you can pop the player off in a corner while still having access to its controls. Background playing is also available on Xbox, and, yes, there's even a dark mode.

It's worth noting that Sonca is still technically in beta, so you may run into a bug here or there. Sonca will normally cost $8, but it's on sale for its launch for $5 at the Microsoft Store.
