HTC's Viveport subscription service opens its doors to Oculus Rift

HTC is expanding its Viveport subscription service to a potentially huge new audience for developers. The service is already supported for the HTC Vive VR headset, but now the doors are wide open for Oculus Rift users as well.

From the Vive blog:

Adding support for Oculus Rift doubles the potential audience for all Viveport published titles, and opens Viveport Subscription – the best value in VR – to Oculus Rift consumers. Viveport Subscription allows subscribers to experience up to five titles at a time, starting with a free 14-day trial, and continuing after that with one low monthly price.

According to HTC, developers can start opting their titles in now, allowing them to show as compatible with Oculus Rift headsets. The full consumer launch for Rift support will take place on September 4, at which point users of Oculus' headset can subscribe to Viveport and take advantage of the five titles per month their allotted.

HTC says that there are currently a total of nearly 500 games and apps available through Viveport now, a number that will gradually increase over time. All developers have to do to mark their titles as compatible with Oculus Rift is head to the "Compatible headsets" section of the developer console and check the box next to Oculus Rift.

If you're intrigued, Viveport costs $8.99 per month, or $19.99 if you opt to pay for three months at a time. Sic and 12-month plans are also available for $39.99 and $79.99, respectively.
