Sunset Overdrive is an over-the-top action game which features smooth parkour and insane weapons. The city is overrun by mutants who have transformed after drinking a tainted energy drink. It's up to you to save the day and possibly the world.
The game garnered great reviews upon release, and many Xbox One gamers have been asking for a sequel ever since. In an interview between IGN and Insomniac Games head Ted Price, the developer said that the team would love to make Sunset Overdrive 2 some day.
I think one of the great things about starting a franchise and having the opportunity to make sequels is that you've, in many cases, made the hardest decisions already. When you establish an IP, you now know what the tone is, you know what the character is, you know what the core mechanics are that work. You know what players liked and didn't like so, doing a sequel for any game, be it Sunset Overdrive or something else, is an opportunity to deliver something to fans that's significantly better than the original, and that's something that I think we would love to do someday. For us, it's a timing challenge. It's a bandwidth challenge.
Hopefully Microsoft will come together with Insomniac Games and work out a deal. The studio owns the Sunset Overdrive franchise so it could partner with another company too, but it's unclear how Microsoft would be involved. Would you like to see Sunset Overdrive 2? Let us know.
