Lloyds Banking Group to test Windows Hello logins with customers later this year

Lloyds Banking Group has announced that it will soon start testing out Windows Hello biometric authentication for customers logging into accounts online. Announced as a collaboration with Microsoft (via OnMSFT), the test will apply to customers logging into their Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland accounts.

According to Lloyds, the trial will kick off at some point in the second half of the year. Customers will have the option to log into their accounts using their face or a fingerprint instead of using a password. Since biometric data is stored locally and is unique to each person, the hope is that Windows Hello will make the login experience much more secure.

Outside of a general target of the second half of the year, there's no firm testing date just yet. Still, it's good to see a major player taking steps to increase account security with Windows Hello. If you're a customer, keep in mind that you'll need a PC equipped with either a fingerprint sensor or a Windows Hello-enabled webcam. Thankfully, it can be relatively cheap and easy to add Windows Hello to your PC these days.
