Metro Exodus PC is hiding Steam support with some sneaky stickers

Epic Games has been on a roll recently, and many could argue that the company is one of the hottest developers in the world after the unprecedented success of Fortnite. Not only that, but it also launched the Epic Games Store which has not only attracted a slew of great games, but also support from major developers. Recently, Ubisoft for example has said that it would only release its "AAA" games on the Epic Games Store, moving forward.

Deep Silver followed its lead and recently announced that Metro Exodus would be removed from Steam and only launch through the Epic Games Store on PC with a $10 price drop. Preorders were open on Steam for months, so there have been a lot of last-minute changes. One of them is related to the boxed PC version.

Instead of replacing the entire cover, Deep Silver is printing stickers (via @lashman) which cover up the Steam logo on the PC packaging, which makes it clear that this was a last-minute deal hastily put together.

Deep Silver has caught some controversy already for fragmenting the franchise across two different store fronts, with one of Metro Exodus' developers claiming, in frustration, that the game would bypass PC altogether if it isn't successful on the Epic Store. Deep Silver responded to the comments saying that it doesn't reflect their view, and that they intend to support PC for the foreseeable.

The Metro Exodus exclusivity deal is expected to last until 2020 for the Epic Games Store.

In our review, we said, "While the voice acting is patchy, the overall story is an engrossing tale of post-apocalyptic survival, wrapped in a sense of discovery and adventure aboard the Aurora train convoy. Bonding with your characters as you travel across the wastes makes Exodus feel far less lonely than the previous games, without hurting the sense of survival and isolation."
