Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden developers offer peek behind the curtain

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden has shown off plenty of gameplay footage in the leadup to its release, but the developers are using their latest video to offer an in-depth look at what the game is all about.

Set in a "post-human" world full of mutated animals, Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is a bleak tactical strategy game along the lines of XCOM. Where the game pushes things forward is in blurring the lines between its tactical combat and stealth exploration. That's largely thanks to the fact that a portion of the development team is made up of former Hitman developers, who bring plenty of stealth experience to the table.

In Mutant Year Zero, you'll start out controlling Dux and Bormin, two mutant animals who work as "stalkers," tasked with heading out into the world to collect scrap and other things to help people back at the game's hub survive. You'll be able to sneak around the world, either avoiding confrontations or setting up the turn-based battles in your favor. Along the way, you'll gain access to new, upgradeable weapons and a wide range of mutations that can augment your abilities.

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is expected to launch on December 4 across PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. For now, preorders are available only for PC starting at $34.99.
