Microsoft has just started rolling out a brand new firmware update for the Surface Pro 4 (via Neowin) that brings support for Microsoft's new Type Cover and Signature Type Covers launched alongside the new Surface Pro.

If you're a Surface Pro 4 user, you may have already realized that the new Type Covers already work on your device. Today's firmware update is just improving reliability and compatibility, giving the device official support for the new Type Covers.

Changelog:

  • Surface Keyboard 1.1.504.0 enables support for the new Surface Pro Type Cover and Surface Pro Signature Type Cover

The update is rolling out now via Windows Update for Surface Pro 4 users. If you'd rather download the firmware update yourself, you can do so at this link.

There's no sign of a similar update for the Surface Pro 3 just yet. Still, even without a new firmware update, the new Type Covers should work on the Surface Pro 3 just fine.
