Oddworld head honcho says a remake of Abe's Exoddus is on the way

Oddworld Inc. co-founder Lorne Lanning, says that a remake of the legendary PS1 classic Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus is the 'next logical one to go into production'. I agree.

Following the reception of Abe's Oddysee's 'New n' Tasty' remake, it certainly makes sense!

"That's the next logical one to go into production, so we're planning that now."

I am currently in the process of reviewing Oddworld: New n' Tasty, but to preface, the Unity engine ground-up remake is as meticulous as it is beautiful. Scenes that were previously pre-rendered static backgrounds find new life on the back of Unity, modern lighting and effects, fully 3d backgrounds and contemporary physics. For Abe's Exoddus' remake to receive the same dedication would be a welcome treat.

Speaking with the Kinda Funny twitch team, Oddworld mastermind Lorne Lanning described the future for the odd IP, stating that if Exoddus is a success as well, that Oddworld could see completely fresh 'Triple A' releases in the future.

"Once we do that, then I think we're in a position where we can actually afford new, triple-A-class content from Oddworld IP. I have to figure out a way to deliver a smaller portion to the audience earlier — which is really sort of the newer models, anyway — and make sure it's as good as the quality that they're expecting."

Oddworld: New n' Tasty has sold a whopping 24 million copies across all platforms thus far, a figure which hopefully bodes well for the future of the franchise. Lorne has been critical of Microsoft in the past over the handling of the original Xbox timed exclusives Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, but thankfully both Oddworld Inc and Microsoft seem to have a renewed relationship owing to the arrival of Oddworld: New n' Tasty on Xbox One.

Stay tuned for my review of Oddworld: New n' Tasty, but in all honestly, if you're a fan of puzzle platformers you should probably just go and buy it right now.
