Preordering Star Control: Origins now will see you in line for next month's beta

Humanity is in peril and that's usually where the player swoops in to save the day. The same goes for Star Control: Origins, which will task players to explore a galaxy, establish contact with alien civilizations and investigate strange procedurally generated planets. Oh, and you need to save humanity from complete annihilation. No pressure. Luckily, you'll be in store for humorous dialogue and some rather out-of-this-world features.

The space adventure come RPG is now ready for preorder on PC ahead of a beta.

Just how did humanity manage to get itself into this predicament? Signals were being beamed out from Earth and were eventually picked up by an advanced alien race. The only issue is this alien race didn't like what it received and decided it would be a good idea to pay humanity a visit. Commanding the most advanced starship in the human fleet, it's your job to prevent this destruction from occurring.

The adventure will take you various parts of the galaxy, engaging in battles, take on quests, collect resources and kit out your ship with awesome upgrades. There's also a multiplayer element called Super-Melee. Those of you who may be familiar with the series of games before Stardock bought the rights from Atari, this isn't a sequel of sorts, more like a game set in a different universe. It'll be interesting to see if Stardock gets the balance just right to please new and old fans.

The game itself isn't yet ready for release but should hit stores in 2018. By preordering, not only will you take advantage of a discount but Stardock will unlock access to the Super-Melee beta, which will take place in November. This beta will allow participants to create a fleet of ships, each with their own unique abilities. They can then take on the AI or one another in ranked multiplayer matches.

Star Control: Origins can be preordered for $24.99.
