Sci-fi city builder 'Surviving Mars' up for preorder on Xbox One

Surviving Mars is a city builder coming to Xbox One and PC on March 15, 2018. It's also now available for preorder on Xbox One at retailers like Amazon and the Microsoft Store.

Unlike creating sprawling cities on Earth, the game is all about colonizing Mars and surviving its challenges. It's more of a survival-builder than a traditional Cities: Skylines-like experience. According to developer Haemimont Games, it's a "focused game about creating interconnected systems and testing them against the threats of a hostile environment."

Aven Colony and Planetbase are other games on Xbox One which focus on building a colony on another planet. However, neither offered a completely immersive experience due to their repetitive natures. Hopefully Surviving Mars will succeed on all fronts, especially replayability.

The game also features many new mechanics in the genre like domes which protect structures and colonists. The developer must ensure that they aren't too cumbersome when the game launches next month. The learning curve shouldn't be too steep either so that the title remains accessible.

Haemimont Games and Paradox Interactive also confirmed that Surviving Mars would feature Xbox One X support at launch. While the exact nature of the upgrade isn't clear, the developer stated in the past that its targeting 4K 30 FPS on the console.
