Skype's new Spotify add-in lets you quickly share tunes with friends

Sharing your favorite tunes with friends is about to get a little easier if you use Skype as your chat app of choice. Microsoft this week started rolling out a new Spotify add-in for Skype Insiders to test, making sharing songs just a couple of taps away in your chats.

For Insiders on Skype version 8.26 or higher, you'll soon start seeing Spotify on your add-in panel, accessible by tapping the "+" icon to the left of the text box in your chats. Once you've tapped in, you'll be able to search for songs, albums and artists; preview and share music; or start playing music on Spotify.

This may be a relatively small addition in the grand scheme of things, but it's a solid third-party integration that comes at a time when Skype is receiving some criticism as Microsoft shifts users to the modernized version 8 update. This is just the latest partnership between the two companies, following Microsoft's closure of Groove Music Pass last year, directing users to Spotify in its place.

The Spotify add-in is being gradually rolled out to Skype Insiders on version 8.26 now, and all Insiders around the world should have access to it soon. Should testing go well, the add-in will make its way to everyone in the coming weeks or months.
