Windows 10 update packs fix for AMD boot issues

Microsoft last week paused the rollout of its Spectre and Meltdown patch for some AMD-based PCs following reports that it was causing those systems to be unable to boot past the Windows startup logo. Now, it appears Microsoft has a fix: A new cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1709 (Fall Creators Update) is now available with a single fix directed at AMD devices (via Neowin).

The update, labeled KB4073290, ticks the build number up to 16299.194. The release notes are rather short, reading:

An update is available to fix the following issue that occurs after you install January 3, 2018—KB4056892 (OS Build 16299.192):AMD devices fall into an unbootable state.

This follows today's release of a pair of cumulative updates for Anniversary Update and Creators Update PCs as well, although those particular updates included a much longer list of fixes. If you're running an AMD-based PC, you should be able to grab KB4073290 via Windows Update. The update is also available as a manual download from the Microsoft Update Catalog now.
