Xbox Game Pass officially launches June 1; early access kicks off today

After months of testing with Xbox Insiders, Microsoft has announced that Xbox Game Pass will officially launch to everyone on June 1. Ahead of that, however, Xbox Live Gold subscribers will get early access starting today, May 24.

Xbox Game Pass is a sort of Netflix-style subscription approach to gaming, offering access to more than 100 (at launch) Xbox One and backward compatible Xbox 360 games for $10 per month. Unlike Netflix, however, you won't have to stream the games, potentially losing some visual fidelity along the way. Instead, you can download titles like Halo 5: Guardians, Payday 2, Mad Max, and NBA 2K16 right to your console.

Every month, Game Pass will add more games to its catalog. It's also possible we might see some cycled out of the program depending on licensing.

In any case, if you're an Xbox Live Gold subscriber, you should be able to check out Game Pass early with a 14-day free trial starting now. Everyone else can check out the service starting June 1, with subscription sign-ups being available at Microsoft's Game Pass website.
